Armed Forces Support Foundation (“AFSF,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (Tax ID/EIN: 46-3102037) based in Bakersfield, California, dedicated to providing financial and non-financial assistance to veterans of all eras in Kern County. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and share information when you visit www.armedforcessupport.org (the “Site”), submit a contact form, apply for assistance, make a donation, or otherwise interact with us.
By using the Site, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide Directly
Contact Form. When you submit our contact form, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and the contents of your message.
Grant and Assistance Applications. When you apply for financial or non-financial assistance, we may collect additional information necessary to evaluate your application, which may include your name, contact information, mailing address, military service history and discharge documentation (such as a DD-214), household and financial information, and a description of your need. We collect this information solely to verify eligibility and administer our assistance programs.
Donations. Donations are processed through Square, a third-party payment processor. When you donate, your payment card details are collected and processed directly by Square, not by AFSF. We do not receive or store your full payment card number. We may receive your name, contact information, and donation amount for receipting, acknowledgment, and recordkeeping purposes. Square’s handling of your information is governed by its own privacy policy, available at squareup.com/legal/privacy.
Other Communications. If you email us, sign up for an event, volunteer, or otherwise communicate with us, we collect the information you choose to provide.
Information Collected Automatically
When you visit the Site, we and our service providers automatically collect certain information through cookies and similar technologies, including your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring pages, pages viewed, and the dates and times of your visits. We use Google Analytics (via Site Kit by Google) to understand how visitors use the Site. 2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Respond to inquiries submitted through our contact form or by email
- Review, verify, and process applications for veteran assistance
- Process and acknowledge donations and issue tax receipts
- Communicate with you about our programs, events, and fundraising activities
- Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site
- Comply with legal, tax, and regulatory obligations applicable to 501(c)(3) organizations
- Prevent fraud and protect the integrity of our assistance programs
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
3. Sensitive Information in Assistance Applications
We understand that assistance applications may include sensitive information, including military service records, discharge documentation, and financial details. We treat this information with heightened care. Access is limited to board members and authorized personnel who need it to evaluate applications and administer assistance. We do not publish, sell, or share applicant information except as necessary to provide assistance (for example, coordinating a payment to a landlord or utility provider on your behalf, with your knowledge) or as required by law.
4. How We Share Information
We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service Providers. With vendors who perform services on our behalf, such as website hosting, payment processing (Square), email delivery, and analytics (Google). These providers are permitted to use your information only to perform services for us.
- Assistance Coordination. With third parties such as landlords, utility companies, or vendors when necessary to deliver approved assistance on your behalf, and only with your knowledge.
- Legal Requirements. When required to do so by law, subpoena, or legal process, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
- Organizational Changes. In connection with a merger, reorganization, or dissolution of the Foundation, subject to applicable nonprofit law.
5. Cookies
The Site uses cookies and similar technologies to enable core functionality and to collect analytics data as described above. Most browsers allow you to control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some features of the Site.
6. Data Retention
We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to satisfy legal, tax, accounting, and reporting requirements applicable to nonprofit organizations. Assistance application records are retained in accordance with our recordkeeping obligations and then securely disposed of.
7. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect the information we collect. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Third-Party Links and Services
The Site contains links to third-party websites and services, including our Square donation checkout and our social media pages on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third-party sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.
9. Children’s Privacy
The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. California Residents
AFSF is a nonprofit organization and is generally not subject to the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). Regardless, we respect your privacy choices. California residents may contact us at any time to request information about the personal information we hold about them, to request corrections, or to request deletion, subject to our legal and recordkeeping obligations. We will honor reasonable requests.
11. Your Choices
- You may opt out of fundraising or program emails at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our messages or by contacting us directly.
- You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us using the information below.
- You may disable cookies through your browser settings and opt out of Google Analytics as described in Section 1.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised policy on this page and update the effective date above. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
